Kolkata (3N) – Darjeeling (3N) – Gangtok (2N) – Kalimpong (2N)

Day 1: ARRIVE IN KOLKATA

On arrival at Kolkata airport our representative having a placard displaying your name will meet you to pick you up and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at hotel in Kolkata.

 

Day 2: KOLKATA

The city of Kolkata, also known as Kolkata, was established by the East India Company and was the capital of British India until 1911. It remains a cultural capital, and proudly boasts some of the finest British and Bengali architecture in India. During your stay we include excursions to the flower market, Howrah Bridge, Kalighat Temple and the Victoria Memorial (also known as the British Taj Mahal).

 

Day 3: KOLKATA TO DARJEELING

This morning transfer to the airport for a flight to Bagdogra. On arrival take the steep road transfer to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Darjeeling. Darjeeling was a quiet hill village until the British East India Company leased the area, and in 1841 brought in tea from China; in a few short years Darjeeling’s fame for tea production was secured. 

 

Day 4: DARJEELING

This morning we rise early to see the sunrise on Tiger Hill. Enjoy unrivalled views across Darjeeling and of the captivating Kanchenjunga – third highest mountain in the world, and the tallest in India. Weather permitting, this multi coloured dawn with the Himalayas reflecting the changing hues of the sun is truly a majestic sight. We continue to Ghoom Monastery, before returning to the hotel for breakfast. Later we have arranged a ride on the toy train from Darjeeling to Ghoom (subject to operation) the highest railway station in India. In the afternoon visit to the famous Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and the Everest Museum to see pictures and equipment from expeditions through the ages, including some belonging to Tenzing Norgay, which were used on the first successful ascent. Visit Darjeeling zoo and the Tibetan Refugee Centre before returning to the hotel.

 

Day 5: TEA FACTORY

After breakfast we take an excursion to Goomtee Estate for a tour of the tea factory, followed by some tea tasting. Lunch is included before returning to the hotel.

 

Day 6: DARJEELING TO GANGTOK

Today we travel to Gangtok (4,715ft), the modern day capital of Sikkim and a centre for Tibetan Buddhist culture and learning. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a 2 night stay.

 

Day 7: GANGTOK

After breakfast enjoy an excursion to Rumtek Monastery – seat of His Holiness, the Gyalwa Karmapa. In the afternoon we head to the Bamboo Resort for lunch and afterwards partake in an instructed meditation session.

 

Day 8: KALIMPONG

After breakfast leave Gangtok and travel to Kalimpong by road for a 2 night stay. Kalimpong was developed as an alternative hill station to Darjeeling, and quickly gained a reputation as a peaceful haven famed for its beautiful surroundings and abundance of wildflowers.

 

Day 9: KALIMPONG

This morning we visit a flower nursery and the contrast of modern and ancient Buddhist monasteries. The rest of the day is at leisure.

 

Day 10: KALIMPONG TO KOLKATA

Today we transfer by road to Bagdogra and take an onward flight to Kolkata for a 1 night stay.  

 

Day 11: KOLKATA-ABROAD

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to your country.
